If there is one thing the past few years has taught us, it’s that we can’t leave things to the last minute. So many students (myself included many years ago) wait until the final hour of Year 12 to really put the effort in to get an ATAR that will admit them into their desired university course.
But, that no longer works.
Now that weโve seen how unpredictable life can be from our Covid years, we have finally come to understand that nothing is predictable.
And, unfortunately, it’s the students who leave their studies to the last minute who will be impacted the most.
So what can we learn from this?
It’s never too early to start getting prepared. And frankly, working more consistently from earlier years also has a proven beneficial impact on a student’s ability to maintain a work/life balance, as well as maintain their mental and physical health. This isn’t just something that will work better for their final HSC year, but something that will have lifelong benefits.
Universities are also cottoning on to the fact that the HSC cannot be relied upon, with a record number of university offers now being made before the HSC to students who have proven a track record of hard work and results outside of just a single HSC exam.
So, instead of having the mentality that ‘this doesn’t count until the HSC’ and ‘I’ll just wing it’, working consistently and progressively is the way to go, and the foundation that we at Ignite offer our students.
